It's Christmas eve. I have reason to believe that at some point tonight a hairy, obese, Caucasian man will break into my house-and possibly yours. The suspect is believed to have an entourage of wild deer and an obnoxious laugh. The deer's leader goes by "Rudolph" and has a bright red nose. Witnesses say it even glows. The perps M.O. consists of entering a domicile through either a chimney or open window. He then finds his way into the kitchen and consumes any and all foods that are high in sugar and/or fat. After that, he leaves "gifts" in the victims socks and under their Christmas tree. Please, good people, I beg of you: Do NOT under ANY circumstances confront this man and do NOT touch said "gifts."
Tomorrow, If you find any of these "gifts" or "presents" please send them to me for proper disposal.
Please, don't be a victim this holiday season.

Aha! Finally got blogger to work again!

Friday I participated in the "24 Hour Comics Day"

The goal is to do 24 completed and ready for print pages in 24 hours.

I attempted to do a story I've had laying around since last year (I've been itching to do it though)

Key word: attempted. At the 14th hour I was ready to begin inking the 24 pages when I realized that I was running out of "Juice." (I only had 3-4 hours of sleep the night before)

So, I stopped and decided to
just complete the inking on my own time so I'll have a nicer completed product. I'm really happy with the story. It's a lot different from what I usually do, but it's something I've been wanting to get at for a while. Hopefully it'll turn out well.

I'm definitely doing it again next year.

In other Joe/Sequential news, I've FINALLY come up with a concept for the anthology this year. I've already done a few quick sketches. After all this time of going crazy trying to come up with something the idea hit me right before falling asleep at 5 am the other night...I'm going to do my take on "Jack and the Beanstalk" Should be a good ole time. I should probably finish it before I go back to the 24 page comic (and also my one page comic for art history about Schliemann)

I found that on this awesome review of mini's from Fluke.
I commend him for taking the time to review all those mini's.

Things should hopefully slow down a bit this weekend so I can finally get around to scanning all the non-mini comic work I've been meaning to scan. Lot's of inking, coloring and fun things this weekend.

Here's a "lost" Get Bent that didn't make it into the first mini collection. (Not because it's a lesser strip, it's actually one of my favorites. When I went to print the thing it just wasn't there...)

I'm going to make a few changes to it (as I did with the rest of them) before the next collection.
"Tree" heheh.

I got scolded today so I'm finally going to start my journal comic, but it'll be on my livejournal (lou_bevlo).

As poopy as valentine's usually is my dear sweet mamma always sends me stuff.
(Jimi Hendreix hat, Spongebob Chocolates, Butterfingers, Gummi Bears and some m & m's)

She also included twenty bucks which went towards feeding me tonight.

Here's a sketch I did in painter of Goldie Locks and her three bears. I actually gave this concept to someone else in scripting but I think I still want to do something with it myself at some point.

I registered for classes today. Next quarter I will be taking:

TR 11- Pen and Ink II with Gildersleeve
TR 2- Psychology with..umm...somebody.

It's almost over and it's creeping past that "terrifying" point into something a bit worse.

Here's two pages from one of the "Mississippi Mythology" stories I wrote. I really should go back and finish it up. I like how they're taken out of context here (guy in bed, random people fighting, lady attacks a preacher) I assure you if it were completed it would make sense!
I rarely post my pencil's up because I usually work fairly loose and I'm sure nobody wants to see me scribble all over the place!

Here's a little color study I did in water color of one of my mom's flowers...it's so hard to scan a friggin painting then get the colors to what they are in real life. (I think they're poinsettia's)

I went to the mini comics workshop at turner saturday night and it was pretty cool. I got to trade with a few people and mingle with a my fellow sequential kids. I saw a mini there that was done on legal paper and that gave me a great idea: Get Bent is definitely going to be printed that size! I want it to be kinda just obnoxious and in your face and why not print it bigger than a normal mini? (Also, it'll keep me from having to print the strips horizontal)

The Simpsons storyboards are coming along...
My ten comic strips for cartooning are being written still. It's a bit more difficult this time because I have to keep it clean. It's kinda funny because the longer things I've written aren't as "extreme" as my short works. Go figure.

I'm SO happy to be able to make music again (and even with someone else again).
It's nice to have some system of checks and balances going on so it's not all of my craziness going on. It'll also help me keep too much personal junk out of my lyrics.

That's my first editorial cartoon. I kinda like how the conte forced me to try something new, but not too happy with the concept. (I wanted it to double as a fungus and a mushroom cloud)

This should be an interesting weekend. Simpsons storyboards, Comic strips (a new CLEAN adventure strip!!!) a little Get Bents on the side, Mini comics workshop, probably watching the anchorman and amelie at some point.

Next weekend: MEGACON....never been to a con before. Should be interesting.

Here are some sketches of Nate from "True Tales of the Big Lipped Beast." He's one of my roommates (my other roommates character design is under lock and key...shh. Don't tell her about it.) I made Nate a little Chinchilla cause they're small and cute (and a lot of girls are always saying Nates small and cute so there ya go.)

I think I'm almost back on track. Still shaky. I'm pretty sure my sleep habits will return to a semi reasonable state sometime next week.

I'm going to a mini comics workshop thing this weekend that I'm really kinda hype about. Also Fluke in April.

This is one of a few "portraits" I did of the growth. Don't really feel like explaining that right now. A few more will come up soon though.

I did this a good while ago, just thought I'd post it so there's some actual comics pages on here instead of just random drawings and caricatures.

My old laptop (rip) is now my new little external hard drive. Hooray for technology.

It's cool getting my stuff back, but I think some of it is missing which sucks.

I don't think I'm going to make the anthology this year and that makes me sad.

I should probably be inking/drawing/making comics.

Last thing I wanna do now though.

(No I don't get all of my news from the Daily Show. I actually don't watch it.)

I'm enjoying doing these one panel gags...3/4 of them are penciled. I'm gonna go cook some breakfast type things then come back and finish up the 4th then get to my maquette.
Hopefully I can keep on through the night and start penciling Percy Versus tonight. This anthology is making Valentines Day seem more ominous than usual.

At least I'll be making comics to keep my mind off it.

I intended to put G-Eunuch on his hat but forgot while inking...
Goofy as 50 is I like listening to him a lot, especially while inking.
This is one of three caricatures I did for my Cartooning class.

I have a lot of work to do this weekend (four one panel comics, one painted/finishing up my maquette..scary/and of course, penciling Percy Versus the Alien Menace) so I might kinda disappear for a bit. I'll still update this though; I scanned a good bit of stuff so it won't get behind.

That mesh of colors above is called "Lovers in Red and Blue." Playing with color is a little known hobby of mine so I might post some of my little digital paintings every now and then (and some of the real ones if I ever get around to scanning them.)

Also here's a caricature of a guy from my class named "Steve."

There'll be more caricatures in the next few days and maybe some other goodies.

I'm going to post some of my assignments from this quarter when I get them back. There's some pretty interesting stuff this time around. (Don't worry, nothing as graphic as my final from last quarter!) There's some caricatures that were pretty fun to do though which will be interesting to post. Also, some editorial cartoons, char. designs. Lots of fun stuff.

I'm determined to finish my story for the anthology this year. It's called Percy Versus The Alien Menace. It stars Percy (Hefty Kid Lee/Re-Todd for those who've been around for a long time) as a cop. It's a bit different from the last few things I've done but it should be fun. Here are some sketches of Percy to get your taste bud's flowing (or whatever it is that flows when you're excited.)

But yeah. Percy is tracking down a drug dealer when he gets side tracked. The alien menace arrives on earth and kidnap's a little boy (Chuck Bent from "Get Bent") I'll go ahead and say it's pretty damn exciting. Action packed.

After I finish that I'm hopping right onto the first "True Tales of the Big Lipped Beast"
Which will be 100% TRUE stories from my life. No hyperbole, no exaggeration, just the friggin FACTS.

Honest.

hehe.

And remember to pick up the District so you can "Get Bent" and some other fine comic strips from the sequential department.

oh yah. And I wish my roommate would clean up his act...seriously. This is the 4th time this week I've caught him. Tsk tsk!

I had a little inking accident on the new get bents so it's going to be a good bit before those are back up and running. On the upside, I'm working on "Percy Versus the Alien Menace" for the anthology. I'll probably post some concept sketches and pencils from that. I don't really want this to be a "journal" or personal blog but I've been down lately and it's starting to affect my work. It's been pretty hard to do anything except sleep and eat (sometimes.)

I like the drawing in this one but the caption bugs me. (half assed lettering and could've been worded better.)

I shot some picture's of my apt...and my terrifying room. I might post those up soon.

Epic Movie was pretty stupid. My roommate talked me into it.
Actually really stupid. A few good funny parts, but only a few. (I actually saw several people just get up and leave...)

Percy Versus The Alien Menace is going into the rough stage of pencils soon and hopefully it'll be ready for the anthology.

On to more interesting things, I saw Scott Mccloud lecture tonight. (And I didn't leave my lights on this time!) For those of you who don't know, he wrote some nifty books on understanding comics, reinventing them and now making them blah blah blah. He talks like his books which I thought was funny. Very informative lecture though. Thumbs up to you sir.

Power outtage

My power just went out for a couple of minutes...scary.

For a change of pace on this thing I'm going to post my now inked final from Penciling and Inking I last quarter. And before anyone asks: yes I turned these four pages in for a class.
The project was basically this: Cartoony me has to be asleep at midnight, I hear something, then I check my cell phone, then I hear it again and it scares me so I grab a weapon...then confront it.

Finally got word from the district.....................

and....

They're running 4 Get Bent strips! The other's are too Raunchy. So if you want to see Get Bent in it's entirety just keep checking this thing or grab one of the mini comics when it's ready.
I'm going to write some new stuff specifically for the District that's a little softer.
